I wanted to reorganize the order of the modules in the chassis for more convenient connectivity, but InsightCM does not let me modify it. Is that possible?
Solution/Procedure
Yes. The module arrangement can be changed in InsightCM, and the setting is found on the Hardware tab of the device's configuration page.
What you cannot do is place the modules in any arbitrary order. Each device type supports a specific set of module arrangements, and InsightCM limits the options offered in each slot according to that slot's position in the chassis. If the arrangement you have in mind is not supported, the module you want simply will not appear in that slot's list. This is usually why the change appears to be blocked rather than unavailable.
To update the module arrangement:
1. Click the Configuration pull-down and select Devices.
2. Double-click the device whose hardware configuration you need to update, then select the Hardware tab.
3. Click Edit Hardware.
4. Configure the IP address, controller type, and module arrangement as needed in the Edit Hardware dialog box.
5. Click Back to Devices.
6. Select the device you updated and click Update Configuration to apply the changes.
The arrangement you configure in InsightCM must match the modules physically installed in the chassis. If the two do not agree, the channels offered will not correspond to the hardware.
Supported Module Arrangements
The following rules determine which arrangements are available to you:
Slots must be filled in ascending order starting with slot 1, and no slot may be skipped. You do not have to use every slot.
If the arrangement includes any dynamic modules, those modules must occupy adjacent slots beginning with slot 1. Slot 1 must always be filled.
On high-performance condition monitoring device types, which are based on the cRIO-9047 and cRIO-9036 controllers, both slot 1 and slot 2 must be filled. These device types support up to eight dynamic Input/Output (I/O) modules.
On general purpose monitoring device types, which are based on the cRIO-9068, cRIO-9065, cRIO-9055, and cRIO-9058 controllers, the supported combinations of static and dynamic modules vary by device type.
