You are monitoring an asset in InsightCM using a two-sensor delta configuration and want to confirm how the Voltage Unbalance value is being calculated. With only two voltage sensors installed, it is not immediately clear how InsightCM derives the unbalance result or which standard the calculation follows.
Solution/Procedure
When two sensors are used in a delta configuration, InsightCM calculates the third voltage before calculating unbalance. The resulting Voltage Unbalance value is therefore derived from all three phase voltages, even though only two of them are measured directly.
This method is compliant with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) MG 1-2014 procedure, so the value reported by InsightCM can be compared directly against NEMA MG 1-2014 unbalance limits.
