Adding a Modbus TCP Data Point to the Equipment Hierarchy in InsightCM

Issue Details

Customers may need to configure the InsightCM Server to read data from a Modbus TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) sensor or device, such as lubrication sensors. A common question is whether a Modbus TCP data point can be added directly to the equipment hierarchy in InsightCM and how to configure it correctly.

Solution / Procedure

Yes, Modbus TCP data points can be added to the equipment hierarchy in InsightCM by defining a Modbus register and associating it with a Modbus TCP data source. Follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Asset Configuration page.
  2. Select the Hamburger menu in the upper-right corner of the screen and choose Edit Asset Definitions.

  5. Add a new data source and select Modbus TCP from the data source type selector.
  6. Configure the Modbus TCP data source by specifying the device IP address and appropriate polling parameters.
  7. Add the newly created data source to the Asset Hierarchy.
  8. Configure the register address and register type for the Modbus data point as required by the Modbus device. modbus 3.png
  9. Once configured, the Modbus TCP data point will be available within the equipment hierarchy in InsightCM.
