Getting Started – Route-Based Measurements

Overview

Route-based measurements let you define a repeating inspection plan—a route—that guides a technician through a sequence of machines and measurement points. The technician uses the InsightCM Route iPad app to walk the route, collect vibration data at each point, and upload the results to InsightCM. You can then monitor collection status and route compliance from the Route Collections dashboard.

Route Points

  1. In Asset Configuration, add a new equipment. Select "Route" as the Monitor type. If you have existing equipment, go to the equipment’s Properties page and press the Add Monitors button and then select "Route".

  2. Under the equipment, add a "Route Point".

  3. A Route Point defaults to three accelerometers. On the Route Point, you can configure the orientation, Fmax, and lines of resolution for the measurement.

  4. If you are not taking measurements in all three axis, you can delete the unused accelerometers.

  5. For each accelerometer, you can configure features, trend alarms, and spectral alarms.

Routes

Create Route

Navigate to the Route page (Navigation menu > System > Routes).

  1. Click the Add button in the Routes toolbar.

  2. In the configuration panel on the right, fill in the route details:

    • Route Name—Must be unique across all routes.

    • Frequency—How often the route should be collected (a number).

    • Frequency Unit—Days, Weeks, Months, or Years.

  3. Changes are saved automatically when the form is valid.

  4. With a selected route, click the Add button in the Equipment toolbar.

    • A dialog opens showing all equipment configured for route monitoring that has not yet been added to a route.

  5. Select one or more equipment and confirm.

    • All measurement points belonging to the selected machines are added to the route automatically.

Note

Points added to a machine after the initial route configuration are included dynamically—you do not need to re-add the equipment.

Reordering Equipment

The order of equipment in the route determines the sequence presented to the technician in the InsightCM Route iOS app.

  1. Use the checkbox next to each machine name to select the machines you want to move. You must select some but not all machines to enable the reorder controls.

  2. Click the Up or Down arrow buttons in the Equipment toolbar to move the selected machines.

Reordering Measurement Points

Within an equipment group, you can drag individual measurement points to change their collection order.

  • Drag the handle icon on a row to reorder it.

  • Points cannot be moved outside their machine group.

Enabling and Disabling a Route

Use the toggle switch in the Routes toolbar to enable or disable the selected route.

  • Disabled routes are excluded from collection tracking and will not show a due date. The status shown on the dashboard will be "Route Disabled".

  • When a route is re-enabled, the due date clock resets from the moment it is re-enabled, regardless of any prior collection history.

Removing a Route

Select a route and click the Remove button. The route is deleted immediately.

Collecting Data

Connecting to InsightCM

  1. Open the InsightCM Route app on your iPad.

  2. Enter the InsightCM server address and log in with your InsightCM credentials.

Configure Your Sensor

  1. From the main menu, click the top left menu button to open the left drawer with more options. Select “Configuration”.

  3. Return to the main menu.

Downloading a Route

  1. On the Routes screen, a list of available routes is displayed.

  2. Tap a route to in the Available to Download column and click on the “Download” button.

  3. Once the route is downloaded, it will appear as on the right column. Once the route has been downloaded to the iPad, Internet connectivity is no longer required until uploading data.

  4. Select a downloaded route and press the Collect Data button (motor icon) to begin the route.

Making a Measurement

  1. Press the Vibration button to show the vibration data collection view.

  2. Navigate the route by using the “M” buttons to move between machines. Use the “P” button to move between points.

  3. Turn on your sensor or measurement device. For more information, see: How to Power On Your Route-Based Sensor/Device.

  4. Once the sensor connects, it will display that its status is Ready.

  5. Place the vibration sensor on the machine at the selected point and press the “+” button to collect data.

  6. If you are satisfied with the measurement, move on to the next point in the route.

Skipping a Point

If a measurement point cannot be accessed, you can skip it by pressing on the red “X” button. Skipped points are recorded in InsightCM but do not contribute to the collected data. The skip reason appears in the Route Collections dashboard under Comments.

Adding a Comment to a Collected Point

After collecting a measurement, you can add a note:

Comments from the most recent collection appear in the Route Collections dashboard.

Uploading Route Data

Once data is uploaded, you can use the InsightCM data viewer to inspect your route-based data along with online data.

Due Date Calculation

  • For a new route, the due date is set to the day after the route is created.

  • When a route is re-enabled after being disabled, the due date resets to one day after re-enabling, regardless of the route's collection history before it was disabled.

  • After a successful collection, the due date advances by the configured frequency interval from the collection timestamp.
